World Economic Forum on the Middle East, North Africa and Eurasia 2012

Eurasia House President Dr Armen Sarkissian was an invited participant and speaker in the Istanbul conference of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East, North Africa and Eurasia, which was held under the them of “Bridging Regions in Transformation” on 4-6 June 2012. Dr Sarkissian is a member of the WEF’s Global Agenda Council on Energy Security and served as its chairman in 2010.

The conference brought together over 1,000 leaders in Istanbul to catalyse new partnerships for growth and human development. Discussions focused on the global economic contraction and how can governments and business leaders design and deliver new models to drive innovation and economic agility across this mega-region. Cooperation in energy was another key topic as well as investment in science and research that are critical to knowledge economies. The third area of exploration was recent developments in Middle East.  Discussions revolved around the social dynamism unlocked by developments in the Middle East and North Africa and how they could be used to transform the region into a decade of entrepreneurial opportunity, human security and good governance.
